Bonfire Bus Build Lots of Pictures so heads up. on Tue Nov 04, 2008 1:41 pm
Alright so after 12 hours of driving and some bushwhacking all within 20 hours the bus is now sitting in my garage. Therefor my 90 day restore STARTED TODAY!
Here are the current pictures. I will update this post as i go along with the restores
September 8th
So this is how it rested for 12 years

This is the beginning of a Bushwhacked road

This is path we had to cut notice the wall-like sides of this dense brush

The windy path that we had to take to get it around the Barn (I hate that branch in the picture but o well)

Here we go en route to hook up the bus to the little tractor that could

I think it will hook onto that thingie

There he is

Less than an inch of clearance on each side it was a tight squeeze notice how you can barely see me through the window

This wheel has appeared to stop turning (we have now fixed this based on the principle of if it won't work get a bigger hammer)

loaded up using all sorts of farm machinery

The crew minus the man behind the camera my dad (DeeMacK on this forum) This could not have been done without these guys.

At the gas station almost home

September 8th
Have started to grind/sand rust spots. pics to follow shortly.
September 10th
The only rust hole that i could find, the metal was all there but when i tapped it, it broke away.

this is the "door" but not actually a door. I am being very picky, if there is any signs of rust then i am sanding down and getting rid of it, as i want to do this once

Here is What Happened Tonight
Exhaust came off, bumper came off, pretty much anything else that was removable from the rear end came off

The original Gas heater, I am very afraid to turn this thing on.

We got the drivers seats out today (in the process found two Vermin)

Next order of business is getting the engine out of this thing, that is tomorrows job, as well get at least one door rust free.[/quote]
Alright so like promised the engine came out tonight, we had a few snag but we got it out, and it came out with relative ease after we go it to come far enough forward to clear the input shaft
First order of business get the tins out

We got all of those out and then we were off to races (or so we thought) A cable attached to the defroster was still attached.

After some fidiling we got that thing out

Next Up getting the Gas tank out, as well as getting the interior completely cleaned out, of everything, possibly taking all of the headliners out. I will keep you posted.
so now our bus is about 300lbs lighter.
September 18th
The engine has been stripped down, so I figured that i should try and clean it up. So on went some Gunk, it works ok but, the engine needs to meet a pressure washer. I also picked up a carb from German Gypsy -> thanks man. I got it mocked up as well. It looks sweet, some polishing and some other aesthetic things need to happen to it and the engine.
Without further Ado, here are the pictures.
the new Carb

Drill+Wire Brush= somewhat clean.
